This is an early GM crankshaft that was used in 1961 thru the early 1962 409 engines. The part number was later changed to 3795589 for the remainder of 1962 and possibly early 63.
This appears to be a CrankShaft Company crank the was stroked .020 inch to fall within the guidelines of NASCAR specifications of the day. This excellent crank has been chromed and grooved with additional oil holes drilled in some of the journals. This was acquired from a known engine builder that did a lot of NASCAR engines before he closed his shop down years ago. I have consulted several well known 409 historians, and they concurred that this was most likely a NASCAR application considering all the high end modifications to this crank, especially the .020 additional stroke. There were several other 409 engines and components purchased at the time from his business.
This would e a great crank to build any high performance 409 around. You won’t find another one this nice!
