These are both NOS 656, 409 fitted blocks! These blocks were replacement blocks fitted with main and cam bearings along with freeze plugs and ringed pistons. One is painted with the “HP” for the 400 HP engine and the other has pistons for the 340 HP 409. I have the numbered crate lids that the engines came in from the factory. There is overall corrosion as might be expected after being stored 50+ years. Our concern was that the rings may have corroded and pitted the cylinders, although they looked good from the deck. We soaked the cylinders in PB Blaster from the top and bottom of each cylinder for 2 weeks. The pistons were easily tapped out of each cylinder with minimal effort to expose mainly bright bores. There is some discoloration in some of the bores from the anodized pistons, but no noticed pitting in the ring travel areas. The only iron scale was in the very bottom of two or three cylinders below the end of piston travel. I ran a hone down the No. 7 cylinder on the HP block to make sure that there was no pitting where the rings contacted the cylinder. Any further honing can be done by the purchaser. Blocks will come as seen in photos to include pistons (since removed from bores, but numbered to location).I am leaving the rings on the pistons for you to remove. Once vatted and cleaned, these will be prized virgin blocks. Buyer will pay ALL shipping costs. I will however, deliver to the the Norwalk, Ohio races on July 29 thru 30. I’m sure there are more NOS blocks somewhere, but there can’t be many more!!
