This car was carefully reconstructed with the extensive collaboration and support of Wally Bell.
Other important contributors to this project are Phil Reed, Pat Lobb, Russ Campbell, Scott Cornwall and a host of others. It is doubtful if this undertaking could be done again, considering the rarity and scarceness of original Z-11 components. Without the help of the above-named men, I could never have completed this project.
The Car
Originally a Monaco Blue SS 409 / 4 Speed / blue interior
Media blasted & extensive panel replacement to include entire floor and trunk… Both rear quarters, …upper package tray extension to trunk… Lt. Cowl, ..both complete rear wheel houses…outer rocker panels
Frame
Original to car…All frame components Sand blasted, and powder coated. 4.11 1962 POSI date correct for car.
Interior
Correct bench seat frame restored, and springs replaced as needed. Instrument cluster panel converted from SS aluminum inserts to standard Impala using original OEM components. ..Tach was restored by Williamson Instruments…Speedometer was cleaned and returned to “0” miles…Professionally installed Ciadella Interiors upholstery…Front seat belts with correct NOS webbing and original plastic black seat guards…Original seat belt hardware was used. Hush Mat covers entire interior floor.
Engine

Standard 814 block (QB not QM)
Block was over bored .030 with a 4-inch stroker crank. Special order Ross pistons that were friction coated were used in the build. Hydraulic Roller camshaft….Special order TD roller rockers (a one-off order)…Beehive valve springs
valve springs over SS valves…Block WAS NOT DECKED, nor needed line-bore.
Heads were original OEM with stock valves and springs before rebuilding. NEVER milled or ported as usually found in Z-11 heads. Perfect in every way.
OEM aluminum valley cover and upper intake…Glass Beaded…Fully restored correct and matching AFB Carburetors…. OEM aluminum water pump fully rebuilt by McQuillen. OEM Z-11 distributor converted to Pertronix with MSD (for rev limiter) in Glovebox…Air cleaner is a DIRECT Repo that was made during some early original Z-11 restorations. There were only 4 made, and all are believed to be on prominent known restorations. ( There may have been as many as 8 air cleaners made. Depends on who to talk to)…correct numbered and dated alternator with correct alternator fan and pulley
This engine was purposely detuned as I drove it on the street for a summer. The final measured compression ratio is 9.6 to 1…All pulleys are correct…fuel pump rebuilt and re-numbered for the Z-11…Original OEM Z-11 Oil Pan…Every effort was made to build the engine compartment to appear OEM. Original engine components are ALL October thru November 1962 as found on Z-11’s…Transmission is the correct BW T-10 with the proper nickel gears…
